Dana Jenny, the artist behind Crypt Smyth
Dana Jenny is the proud owner of Crypt Smyth, a queer-owned jewelry business based in Atlanta. Specializing in crafting unique pieces that blend organic and industrial materials, such as bone and steel, Dana's creations are wearable works of art tailored for the unconventional. Inspired by witchcraft, the occult, and the macabre, Dana's designs often reflect elements of gravestone iconography, adding a touch of mystique to each piece.
Dana's journey into jewelry-making began at a young age, collecting rocks, shells, and random hardware, which she transformed into necklaces and bracelets. This early passion led her to pursue formal training at the University of Georgia and subsequently work as a bench jeweler for five years. It was during this time that Dana developed a fascination with bone jewelry, teaching herself the intricate art of carving antler and bone. She is particularly drawn to the way carved bone resembles marble statues and masonry, adding a unique aesthetic to her creations.
After years of working with precious and semi-precious metals, Dana expanded her expertise to include sturdier materials like stainless steel. Continuously pushing the boundaries of traditional jewelry-making, she experiments with a variety of materials to achieve her distinctive aesthetic. Through Crypt Smyth, Dana continues to captivate audiences with her innovative designs, offering a fresh perspective on wearable art.
